1010 WINS reporter Juliet Papa was at the scene, describing "the scary situation" with chucks of ice around "five feet long" falling from the Steinway Tower, a large residential skyscraper, at 111 West 57th Street.

The blocks of ice have crashed onto the sidewalk and broke apart, crashing onto buses, vehicles and scaffolding below.

Police have cordoned off 6th Avenue near 57th Street near 57th Street amid concerns over ice falling from the One57 "supertall" residential skyscraper as well.

Winter weather effects also forced traffic to stall on the Verrazzano and George Washington bridges as crews worked to remove icicles.
