The victim, Cristobal Alfredo Ixquier Mejia, was shot at 147th Place and Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica shortly before 10 p.m.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Mejia with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center but did not survive.

A suspect, Shareese Smith, was arrested a short time later, according to police. Smith, a 20-year-old Brooklyn resident, faces charges of murder, criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm.

Mejia was shot less than a mile away from his home in Jamaica, police said.

He was reportedly hanging out inside a deli near the shooting scene when two men came up and asked about his red jacket.

While red is affiliated with the Bloods gang, police told the Daily News there’s no indication that Mejia had gang ties.

Mejia and the two men got into an argument, leading to the shooting, according to the report.

Police are still searching for the second man following Smith's arrest. Police haven't said who they believe shot Mejia.
