NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 20-year-old man who stepped outside his car after a fender-bender on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens was struck by a hit-and-run driver and left seriously injured, police said Tuesday.

Cops said he was driving a yellow Ford Escape north on the Cross Island Parkway, approaching Exit 30 for the Long Island Expressway, when his car and a white Alfa Romeo struck each other around 11:40 p.m. Monday.

The 20-year-old got out of his car to inspect the damage as an off-duty EMT driving a blue Volkswagen SUV pulled over to assist.

That's when, police say, a white BMW X3 sped by and struck the Volkswagen, causing it to lunge forward, strike and pin the young man between the Volkswagen and his own vehicle.

The BMW driver eventually fled the scene on foot.

The 20-year-old driver suffered leg trauma and remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing.
