NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man was arrested Tuesday after he fought with two NYPD officers who tried to stop him from blocking traffic in Brooklyn, police said.

Zayan Shar, 21, was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct after he allegedly refused to leave Avenue H and Flatbush Avenue in South Midwood last Friday and then attacked the officers who were attempting to arrest him.

Shar "disobeyed multiple lawful orders" to leave the intersection near Brooklyn College, according to police, and became "irate" when the officers tried to arrest him, shoving one of the cops, pushing another to the ground and punching them in the face.

Shar then fled southbound on Flatbush Avenue on foot.

The officer who was pushed to the ground suffered swelling and bruising, while the other wasn't hurt.

Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant and adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, told the New York Post that the incident, which was caught on video, shows cops are hesitant to use any type of force on the job due to New York City laws.

"I’ve seen a number of viral videos that show the same thing — NYPD cops trying to take a sole suspect into custody and can't do it because of all the rules imposed against them," said Giacalone.

Giacalone said the officers were fortunate because "it could have ended very badly for them."

"Forget about the embarrassed part, I'm talking dead," he added. "That kid could have done anything he wanted. He tossed that one cop like they were a rag doll."
