Man, 27, fatally dragged down Queens street while clinging to door handle of fleeing car

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was killed Monday night after a driver dragged him down a Queens street and crashed into a parked car before fleeing the scene, police said.

The 27-year-old victim was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center following the hit-and-run around 9 p.m. at Beach 87th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Beach.

Police believe the victim went up to the driver’s gray Honda sedan at Beach 86th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

The victim grabbed onto the rear passenger door handle, but the driver hit the gas, dragging him about a block, police said.

The driver then swerved into a parked car, where the victim was later found lying unconscious on the roadway with traumatic injuries by NYPD officers responding to a 911 call.

The driver fled the area in the car, police said. No arrests had been reported as of Tuesday.

The victim has not been identified pending the notification of his family.

The exact circumstances leading up to the deadly encounter weren’t immediately known. It’s unclear if or how the victim and driver knew each other.
