NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 65-year-old man grabbed a gun from carjackers in Brooklyn, causing the thieves to flee in a Jeep Cherokee, which they crashed before taking off on foot, police said Monday as they released images of three suspects.

The victim was sitting in his car at 1370 Ralph Ave. in East Flatbush around 2:20 p.m. on April 13, when two men walked up to the driver's side window and punched him repeatedly in the face.

One of the men then whipped out a gun as the other man tried to steal the victim's chain from his neck, police said.

They then demanded that the victim get out of the vehicle and hand over his car keys.

That's when the victim snatched the gun away from the armed suspect, police said.

That caused the two suspects to flee into a Jeep driven by a third man.

As they drove away from the scene, the three suspects crashed the Jeep. They then fled on foot southbound on Ralph Avenue.

The victim was treated for pain and swelling to his face, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
