NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police arrested a Queens man Tuesday in connection with Sunday’s brutal subway attack in which a woman was pushed into an Upper East Side train and left critically hurt with spinal injuries.

Kamal Semrade, 39, of East Elmhurst, was cuffed around 8 a.m. and charged with attempted murder and assault. His arrest came two days after the random attack and a day after cops released images of a suspect believed to be him.

The 35-year-old victim was walking on a platform of the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station at 6:05 a.m. Sunday when a stranger came up from behind and pushed her head into a departing E train, police said.

The woman's head struck the train car, leaving her with spinal injuries that include a fractured spine, as well as head lacerations from falling backwards onto the platform, according to police.

She was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition. She was on her way to work at the time of the attack, according to a GoFundMe page.

The attacker fled the scene, but an investigation led police to Semrade early Tuesday.

In a statement Tuesday, NYC Transit President Richard Davey praised the swift apprehension of the suspect.

“The NYPD acted quickly, using pictures from MTA cameras, to arrest a suspect and start delivering justice to the victim, who is in our thoughts at this terrible time,” Davey said. “It’s now up to prosecutors to pursue maximum consequences available under the law.”
