NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man who allegedly tried to rape a woman after choking her until she lost consciousness on a subway train in Manhattan last month has been arrested, the NYPD said Tuesday.

Sinke Zewge, 39, who is homeless, was arrested and charged with attempted rape, robbery, assault, unlawful imprisonment and criminal obstruction of breathing on Monday, police said.
The 40-year-old woman was sitting on a northbound C train approaching the 168th Street subway station in Washington Heights around 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 3 when Zewge approached her and demanded her property, the NYPD said.
Zewge then allegedly slammed the woman into the train car’s seats and choked her until she temporarily passed out, at which point he groped her and tried to rape her, police said.
When the train arrived at the 168th Street station, Zewge dragged the woman onto the subway platform and fled the station, according to police.
Emergency responders evaluated the woman at the scene, the NYPD said.
Zewge’s attorney information wasn’t immediately available Tuesday.
