NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police released surveillance footage of the suspect who they say beat a man with a hammer at a Chelsea subway station on Tuesday night—about two weeks after another hammer attack in the transit system left a woman with a fractured skull, police said.

The two individuals bumped into each other on the 2-line platform at the 14th Street station at Seventh Avenue around 9:05 p.m., sparking the assault, police said.

The suspect became "irate" and struck the 29-year-old victim in the head several times with a hammer before fleeing, police said.

The victim, who was alert when EMS arrived, was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force has been notified because the victim is of Asian descent.

The NYPD said the suspect is described as being in his 30's, 6'2" tall, 160 pounds and last seen wearing a red jacket with the letter "B" in front of it, a gray shirt, light-colored jeans, red shoes, a black wig and carrying a light colored bag.

Subway crime is up 81% year-to-date, and nearly 87% in just the past month, as Mayor Eric Adams' subway safety plan enters its third week.

A nearby coffee cart worker said he walks from Union Square to Seventh Avenue and avoids the subway because there are “a lot of homeless” at the 14th Street station.

The attack comes about two weeks after a 57-year-old woman was kicked down a stairwell and attacked with a hammer at the Queens Plaza station in Long Island City on the night of Feb. 24. The victim suffered a fractured skull. A suspect was arrested.
