NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An East Harlem McDonald’s employee was hospitalized in critical condition after he was repeatedly stabbed by an unruly customer early Wednesday morning, police said.

The 31-year-old employee was attacked as he broke up a fight between the customer and his coworkers at the McDonald’s at E. 117th Street and Third Avenue around 12:40 a.m.
As the worker was intervening, the customer stabbed him multiple times with a box cutter, police said.
The victim was transported to Harlem Hospital in critical condition. He had stab wounds to his chest, neck and arm.
The stabber fled the restaurant and was still being sought.
The restaurant remained closed late Wednesday morning as police investigated and reviewed surveillance footage.
The stabbing happened a couple of blocks away from the Burger King on E. 116th Street where 19-year-old cashier Kristal Bayron-Nieves was fatally shot during a late-night robbery on Jan. 9.
