Man charged with murder after roommate, 65, kicked off Bronx fire escape dies from injuries

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials charged a man with murder after his 65-year-old roommate died months after he allegedly kicked him off the fire escape of his Bronx apartment building, authorities said Thursday.

Kymasa Holmes, 33, was arrested for attempted murder on Nov. 4, officials said.

According to police, just before 6 a.m. on Sept. 3, Kevin Madison was in the bedroom of his second-floor apartment on located on Cruger Avenue near Mace Avenue in Allerton when his roommate, Holmes walked in.

Holmes allegedly demanded that everyone leave the room so he could be alone with his girlfriend, prompting a dispute with Madison who then grabbed a knife, authorities said.

He then punched and kicked Madison multiple times, forcing him onto the fire escape, prosecutors said.

Holmes then kicked Madison off the fire escape, who fell about 20 feet to the sidewalk below, cops said.

Madison was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center after having suffered bleeding on the brain and fractured vertebrae, police said.

Madison's died on Nov. 24 from complications from blunt force trauma injuries, according to an autopsy. His death was deemed a homicide by the city Medical Examiner.

Holmes now also faces second-degree murder, manslaughter and assault charges.

He is being held without bail on Rikers Island and is due back in court March 15 officials said.
