Man charged with assault, another sought in baseball bat attack on 2 men on Staten Island

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police charged one man and is searching for another in a baseball bat attack on two men outside a Staten Island deli on Sunday night, authorities said.

At about 11 p.m. a 29-year-old man, Roshan Fernando, 46, the wanted suspect were engaged in a dispute at Castleton Avenue and Port Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond.

According to officials, Fernando struck one victim in the head with a metal stick when a 36-year-old man tried to intervene and stop the fight.

Fernando then took a baseball bat and struck both victims multiple times in the head before fleeing eastbound on Castleton Avenue, cops said.

Both victims were removed to Richmond University Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

Fernando was charged with assault.

The sought suspect was last seen wearing all dark colored clothing, a silver chain and earrings on both ears.
