SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A 2.3-magnitude earthquake hit miles below Westchester on Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The trembler rumbled at a depth of about 4.5 miles at 10:17 a.m., USGS said. The epicenter was around Sleepy Hollow.

"I first heard a loud rumbling then my house shook for approximately 6 seconds," one resident told 1010 WINS. "The loud rumbling sounded like an explosion. Just heard from my ADT alarm system that it was a 2.0 earthquake."

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake, which is considered minor. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said the county's Department of Emergency Services hadn't received "any reports of operational impacts or damage to infrastructure."

“Officials at the former Indian Point site have also reported no impacts to operations and are conducting precautionary site surveys as part of their standard safety protocols," Jenkins said, referring to the decommissioned nuclear facility.

NYC Emergency Management said: “Earthquakes of this size are typically minor and rarely cause damage, but some people in nearby areas like the Bronx may have felt brief shaking.”

“No impacts are expected in NYC,” the agency said.
