NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed another man to death outside a Brooklyn smoke shop after the victim complained about his bad manners, police said Friday.
Edwin Pedroza, 42, is charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the killing of Joan Nunez, 37, in front of the 4th Ave. Tobacco Road Corp near President Street in Gowanus on Sept. 20.
According to the Daily News, Nunez got upset that he didn't receive a "thank you" from Pedroza after holding the door open for him as the two entered the store.
"You didn't even say thank you," Nunez told Pedroza, a worker who saw the exchange told the outlet.
"I didn't ask you to hold it!" Pedroza responded.
An argument broke out and escalated into a fight, which police said spilled out onto the sidewalk outside the store. That's when Pedroza allegedly stabbed the victim.
Pedroza then fled on an e-bike as Nunez reportedly jumped up and down on the sidewalk before he realized he was wounded.
Nunez was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Brooklyn Methodist, where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified Pedroza, of Staten Island, as a suspect in Nunez's death a week after the killing.
Pedroza has a lengthy criminal record with roughly 20 arrests, mostly for drugs, police told the Daily News.
