NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 34-year-old man was indicted on murder charges for fatally stabbing a 36-year-old man in the chest during an unprovoked attack in Midtown, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Nisean Graves allegedly ran up to Antonio Eggleston on the street near the intersection of West 30th Street and 7th Avenue and punched him unprovoked on June 9, around 8:15 a.m.

Egglestone, who was unarmed, fought back, and Graves stabbed him in the chest with a knife, according to officials.

Emergency responders brought Eggleston to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police arrested Graves nearby and confiscated a bloody knife from his pocket.

“Nisean Graves initiated the stabbing of a stranger that ended in a life being taken far too soon,” said Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg. “In addition, this public display of violence at a busy intersection threatened the safety of the many other New Yorkers passing by. Although we cannot undo this murder, our dedicated prosecutors will work hard to ensure there is appropriate justice for this alleged attack.”

Graves was charged with murder for the attack.
