JACKSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A man was arrested in the kidnapping of his girlfriend and their baby from their New Jersey home earlier this week, authorities announced Thursday.
Gerson Aguilar-Lara, 24, was charged with two counts of kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, and robbery, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.
According to officials, at approximately 10:30 p.m., on March 7, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a woman seeking help. The call was subsequently disconnected.
Upon callback, the woman was able to provide her name as well as basic information before the connection was again terminated.
The Jackson Township Police Department were able to obtain the woman's address of the victim as a residence on North Chapel Road in Jackson.
Responding officers determined that the victim and her infant child had been taken from the residence against their will.
An investigation revealed that Aguilar-Lara, who was the woman's boyfriend and father of the infant, had forced her and her child into a Chevrolet Equinox before fleeing the area.
A description of the vehicle was released by The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Jackson Township Police Department in order to locate the victims as well as Aguilar-Lara.
On March 8, the Toms River Police Department observed Aguilar-Lara’s vehicle turning into a parking lot on Route 37, at approximately 3:15 a.m.
Aguilar-Lara fled on foot but officers tracked him down and he was taken into custody shortly, authorities said.
Neither the victim nor her infant child were hurt.
Aguilar-Lara was transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters and is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
