VIDEO: Man critical after beaten with bat, broom by trio in Bronx home invasion

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating a home invasion robbery by a trio last month in the Bronx after that left a man critically injured, authorities said.

At around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, three suspects entered a residence located in the vicinity of Selwyn Avenue and Mount Eden Avenue in Mount Eden via an unlocked door, police said.

The suspects then forcibly broke in through a second locked door, cops said.

Once inside, the suspects proceeded to approach two male victims a 21-year-old man and a 27-year-old man who were sleeping inside of the home.

Authorities said the suspects assaulted both victims' multiple times with baseball bats and a broom and stole three cellphones, a tablet and approximately $500 from inside the residence before fleeing the location in an unknown direction.

Both victims were transported by private means to BronxCare Health System. The 21-year-old man sustained severe injuries to the back of the head and was listed in critical but stable condition.

The 27-year-old man sustained injuries to the left side of the head and his left knee and was treated and released by hospital staff.

One of the suspects has since been apprehended and police are still searching for the remaining two suspects.
