NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating the death of a man who was dropped off at a Staten Island hospital after having been shot in the chest on Wednesday night, authorities said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., officers responded to the “suspicious” death of a man who was brought to Staten Island University South Hospital, police said.

Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 36-year-old man was brought to the hospital by a man and woman, unconscious and unresponsive, and believed to have suffered a puncture wound to the upper right arm area.

The couple did not remain at the hospital, cops said.

Upon further examination by hospital staff, it was discovered that the man had a bullet lodged in his chest area. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital.

There have been no arrests made, and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
