Man drowns near Pier 35 on the Lower East Side

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating after a man drowned near Pier 35 in Manhattan on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Just after 4 p.m., police received 911 calls of an unconscious and unresponsive man in the water, in the vicinity of South Street at Pier 35 on the Lower East Side, officials said.

Numerous NYPD and FDNY units responded to the location and the NYPD's Harbor Unit pulled the adult male from the water.

EMS transported him to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner’s office will determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
