Man fatally hit by car while unloading groceries in Queens; wife, grandchild seriously injured

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was killed and his wife and grandchild were seriously injured in a crash in Queens on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The collision happened at approximately 4 p.m. at 260th Street and 73rd Avenue in Glen Oaks as 67-year-old Sam Amorese was unloading groceries from his car, officials said.

According to police, Amorese was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder and pinned between two vehicles. His 65-year-old wife and 1-year-old grandson both suffered serious leg injuries.

Amorese's wife was transported to Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Their grandson was taken to Cohen Children's Medical Center.

Their 5-year-old granddaughter was also was taken to Cohen Children's Medical Center to be treated for minor scratches.

The 39-year-old driver may have suffered a medical episode before the crash. He told police that he blacked out before losing control of his Pathfinder.

He was also taken to a hospital complaining of chest pains.

No charges have been filed against him so far, officials said.

An investigation remains ongoing.
