NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A pair of hit-and-run crashes in Queens on Wednesday night—including one involving a stolen U-Haul truck—left two men critically injured, police said.
The victims were struck over the span of about five minutes in Long Island City and Woodside.
In the LIC crash, a 62-year-old man was crossing Borden Avenue and 21st Street just after 9:20 p.m. when he was run over by a white U-Haul pickup truck, police said.
The U-Haul’s driver was traveling at a high rate of speed during the crash.
The vehicle was reported stolen, but the NYPD couldn’t immediately confirm reports that the truck was being pursued by police at the time.
The victim was rushed in critical condition to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
About five minutes later, a 29-year-old man was struck at Roosevelt Avenue and 61st Street, right under the 61st Street subway station.
The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was also listed in critical condition.
The driver in that crash also fled and was still being sought. No description of the vehicle has been released.
