The unidentified man crashed through the roof of the utility room at the Mill Brook Houses on St. Ann’s Avenue near E. 135th Street in Mott Haven around 3:05 a.m., officials said.
Residents called the fire department about the odor of gas. When firefighters arrived, they found the man who fell and knocked out gas lines in the process.
It’s unclear whether the man fell from the window or jumped.

The entire building was evacuated while firefighters repaired the gas lines. Residents were able to return later in the morning.
