NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police have identified the man they say attacked a Jewish man in Central Park last month while yelling antisemitic slurs and referencing rapper Ye.

Perin Jacobchuk, 32, allegedly stormed up behind the 63-year-old victim as he walked near Terrace Drive and East Drive off E. 72nd Street, around 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14, and attacked him unprovoked.

The suspect struck the victim so hard that he fell, chipping a tooth and breaking his hand, police said.

Jacobchuk spewed antisemitic remarks and referenced rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, during the vicious assault.

Twitter permanently suspended Ye nearly two weeks before the attack after he tweeted a picture of a swastika merging with the Star of David. That tweet came hours after he said "I like Hitler" in an interview with Alex Jones.

The suspect in the Central Park attack fled on a bicycle with a trailer containing personal belongings. A sign on the back of the trailer read, "hungry" and "disabled," police said.

The victim was transported by private means to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition.

The attack, which is being investigated by the NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force, occurred at a time when antisemitic incidents surged by 70% in November compared to the same month in 2021.

According to the most recent crime statistics released by the department on Thursday, those attacks dropped by more than 56% in December compared to December 2021.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
