NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man fatally stabbed his wife at their Staten Island home and then tried to kill himself but was thwarted by the couple’s adult son, who was cut as he intervened, police said Tuesday.

Ming Chen, 71, was arrested on charges of murder, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police allege he killed his wife, Xiao-Qiong Jing, 62, in their home at 30 Blythe Pl. in the Richmond neighborhood on Sunday night.

Officers responding to a 911 call around 10:15 p.m. found Jing stabbed in the torso. She was pronounced dead at Staten Island University Hospital North.

The couple’s 41-year-old son suffered a slash wound to his left leg. He was transported to the same hospital in stable condition.

Chen was also taken to the hospital in stable condition with a stab wound to the torso. The wound is believed to be self-inflicted, the Daily News reported.

It’s unclear what may have led to the deadly domestic incident, but it's believed Chen stabbed his wife then himself before his son grabbed the knife away from him. Police said an investigation is ongoing.
