NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man raped and robbed a woman after chasing her down a Manhattan street on Monday, police said as the search for a suspect continued Tuesday.

The 21-year-old victim was approached by the man around 1:40 a.m. at East 111th Street and Second Avenue in East Harlem.

He made comments to her that caused her to run away from him.

He chased after her and was able to grab her. He then raped her, police said.

He also stole a bag from her shoulder and a cellphone from her hand, according to police.

He was last seen fleeing eastbound on East 111th Street.

The victim was transported to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The NYPD believes the suspect is in his early 20s. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt with a teddy bear design and carrying a black backpack and a gray bag.
