NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating a suspected hate crime attack in which an Asian woman was shoved to the ground in Herald Square late last month, authorities said Tuesday.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is searching for a suspect in the Dec. 31 assault at the northwest corner of Sixth Avenue and West 33rd Street, officials said.
According to police, a 56-year-old woman was approached from behind at 3:15 p.m. by the suspect, who pushed her to the ground without any prior conversation or provocation.
The suspect then made an anti-Asian statement before fleeing in an unknown direction, to parts unknown, cops said.
The victim sustained a minor injury to her arm but refused medical attention.
Police released a photo of the suspect who was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the back, camouflaged sweatpants, black pants and black sneakers.
