Just minutes later, at 10:22 p.m., firefighters responded to a 911 call about a fire at 3540 Rochambeau Ave. in Norwood.

The FDNY extinguished a fire in a second-floor apartment and found a 76-year-old man unresponsive with “severe fire exposure,” police said.

EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

He was identified as Milton Barnes. Police said he was a resident of the apartment.

Two other people were injured in the fire and taken to area hospitals.

Investigators believe a space heater may have sparked the Bronx fire.

The fire marshal will investigate the causes of both fires, while the city medical examiner will determine the victims’ exact causes of death.
