NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York City will begin offering mobile COVID-19 vaccinations at beaches and parks on Memorial Day weekend, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday.

Vaccine buses will be at beaches like Coney Island, Brighton Beach, the Rockaways and Orchard Beach, the mayor said.

They’ll also be at parks like Brooklyn Bridge Park, Central Park, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Prospect Park and Governors Island.

“You’re going to see the vaccine buses at the beaches,” de Blasio said. “Go, get vaccinated, hit the beach. Real Simple. You’re going to see them at Governors Island, a lot of places where people are going to be this weekend.”

The mayor said the mobile beach and park vaccinations would start Memorial Day weekend and continue at "all the hottest spots this summer."

The vaccinations are free. More information can be found at nyc.gov/nycmobilevax.

At his briefing, de Blasio also announced that the city is expanding in-home vaccinations to New Yorkers 75 years and older, as well as New Yorkers with disabilities. Call 1-877-VAX-4NYC or visit vax4nyc.nyc.gov for more.

"Folks in those two parts of our community who would appreciate the opportunity to have in-home vaccination, we'll send our teams directly out to you," de Blasio said.

The mayor said 8,130,889 vaccine doses had been administered in the city as of Thursday.
