Broadway stars and MTA officials were on hand in Times Square on Tuesday to announce the reboot of "The Only Sure Way To Make it to Broadway" campaign.

The ad was first created in 1977 as a way to promote the subway as the best way to make it to a show on time.

MTA Acting Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber said that's still the case nearly 50 years later.

"It's faster, safer, cheaper and greener than taking a car and our mass transit system is more accessible than ever," Lieber said. "We're in a critical moment coming out of COVID and once again Broadway is part of the city's spirit and the city's resurgence which is why it's the perfect time to reboot this historic ad."

The original ad featured stars from several hit Broadway productions of the time, including theater legends Eartha Kitt and Carol Channing, posing for a now-iconic photo aboard a city subway car.

Actors from "Waitress," "SIX," "Moulin Rouge!" "The Phantom of the Opera," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Dear Evan Hansen," and "Chicago" recently hopped on a subway train to recreate the picture "to welcome new generations of people back to the New York City and all it has to offer, especially Broadway," according to the MTA.

Broadway celebrated its grand return in September after being dark for months during the pandemic. According to The Broadway League, nearly 60% of New Yorkers arrive at theaters by taking the subway.
