Anthony Nelson, a 35-year-old father of four, went to investigate the situation at the Pelham Bay Park station on the 6 line after a commuter told him what was happening.

Before Nelson could even become involved, Alexander Wright, 49, allegedly ambushed him.

The attacker hit him from behind and slammed him onto the sidewalk — breaking his nose and collar bone, the victim’s mother told the New York Daily News.

Despite being injured, Nelson reportedly held on to Wright until the police arrived.

Officers arrested Wright and charged him with assault and harassment.

Emergency responders rushed Nelson to Jacobi Medical Center, where he’s still recovering.
