NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — New Jersey residents who work the night shift or frequent the clubs — head for the Lincoln Tunnel.

The Jersey-bound Holland Tunnel will be closed overnight six nights per week starting Feb. 5, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced Tuesday. The shutdowns will last through 2025.

A total overhaul is needed after Superstorm Sandy's floodwaters over a decade ago caused mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues.

"I guess it has to be done to get the tunnel all better, right?" said Benny, who is planning his detour. "It's falling apart."

The outbound Holland Tunnel will close Sunday to Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and then Friday to Saturday from just before midnight to 9 a.m.

On the bright side, the three-year rehab of the inbound tube will wrap up in just a few weeks.
