Raymond Chaluisant was shooting a toy pistol called “Orbeez” that shoots water gel pellets out of the window of a car when Dion Middleton opened fire on him with a real gun, police said.

Police responded to reports of a shooting around 1:35 a.m. at the intersection of the Grand Concourse and East Tremont Avenue in Mount Hope.

Emergency responders rushed the teenager to St. Barnabas Hospital, where was pronounced dead.

Middleton, who worked for the New York City Department of Correction for nine years, did not stay on the scene of the crime. He reportedly even showed up to work at the NYPD shooting range at Rodman’s Neck later that day.

Police charged him with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

The DOC said Middleton will be suspended without pay while it investigates his actions.

“These very serious charges are in no way a reflection of the officers who work to keep our city safe every day,” said DOC Commissioner Louis Molina. “This officer will be immediately suspended without pay, and if the charges are true he will  face the full consequences of the law and be terminated."
