NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A federal jury convicted NYPD Officer Timothy Martinez for carrying out sexual video chats with minors and possession of child pornography, according to the Department of Justice.

Between October 2016 and March 2017, the 43-year-old officer carried out video chats with an underage girl who was vulnerable after receiving treatment for a brain tumor and convinced her to perform sex acts on camera.

Between September 2012 and November 2016, Martinez similarly convinced an underage girl to appear nude on camera during video chats after she revealed she had been sexually abused by family members.

“The jury found that the defendant not only violated the trust of the public that he was sworn to serve but specifically victimized vulnerable children for years,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. “Instead of using his position as a member of the NYPD to protect children, he shamefully gained the trust of minors in order to sexually exploit them.”

Federal law enforcement caught wind of Martinez’s inappropriate and illegal behavior when he solicited child pornography from a person on Twitter he believed was a minor.

When police raided the cop’s house, they found hundreds of images of child pornography.

The jury convicted him of receipt of child pornography, sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.

He faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison.
