NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey corrections officer was indicted on Tuesday for sexually abusing a girl under the age of 13 for an extended period of time, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.

Jonathan Perez, a 33-year-old corrections officer at the Cape May County Correctional Center, was arrested on Feb. 12, a day after police received reports he had been sexually abusing a young girl.

Perez was suspended without pay from the CMCCC after his arrest.

A grand jury indicted Perez on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The top charge carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. If convicted of the other charges, Perez faces an additional sentence of between 15 and 30 years in prison.
