NYPD detective injured after falling from helicopter during training exercise

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An NYPD detective fractured his foot after he fell while rappelling from a helicopter during a training exercise Thursday, according to officials.

The officer fell from an unsecured rope around 11:20 a.m. while participating in a demonstration at the NYPD Hostage Negotiating Team conference in Queens, according to police.

Emergency responders brought the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi with a broken foot.

Authorities have not yet said why the rope was unsecured and who was at fault.
