HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- An NYPD detective who defended police officers accused of racism in Brooklyn has been suspended for allegedly crashing his vehicle while drunk on Long Island, according to reports.

Det. William Greer was arrested Sept. 16 by State Police in Hempstead for allegedly driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the New York Post.
Greer is accused of crashing into another car on the Southern State Parkway, and then continued driving, the report said.
About three miles away from the crash, troopers caught up to Greer. He refused a breathalyzer and was then arrested, according to the Post.
No one was injured in the crash, and Greer has been suspended without pay, the Post said.
Detectives on a unit in Brooklyn’s 66th Precinct were accused of racism and playing video games while earning overtime, among other things, in what was labeled a “frat house” culture in a complaint filed in 2019 by Det. Michael Moy.
Greer, a union delegate in the precinct, defended his fellow cops during the trial, Moy’s attorney told the Post. The attorney also said Greer was part of the “toxic culture.”
“These are bad cops period. This club has to be broken up,” attorney Fred Lichtmacher told the Post.
