Off-duty FDNY paramedic arrested for DWI in Harlem

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty FDNY EMS paramedic was arrested for driving drunk in Harlem on Sunday night, authorities said.

Janice Gardner, 43, was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of between .08 percent and 1 percent, the NYPD said.

According to officials, Gardner was arrested just before 10 p.m. after police were were flagged down by a passersby who spotted Gardner slumped over in her car at East 111th Street and the FDR Drive.

When officers approached the vehicle, Gardner began to drive, then got out of the car and tried to flee on foot but fell, cops said.

An investigation is ongoing.
