NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Rikers Island was placed on lockdown Friday morning after an inmate escaping through a hole in a fence, The New York Post reports.

Sources told the outlet that at around 9:45 a.m., Jorden Hewitt, 20, got out of the recreation yard.

Hewitt did not manage to escape the island and was back in custody Friday, sources added.

The length of time officers were searching for the inmate is not clear.

Department of Correction spokesman Jason Kersten said “there has been no escape," in a statement when asked for details.
