NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A group of thieves attacked a man with a machete as they tried to steal his scooter in Brooklyn this week, police said.
The NYPD released images Friday showing the four suspects they're searching for after the violent robbery in Cypress Hills.
The 23-year-old victim was parking his motorized scooter at Shepherd and Ridgewood avenues at 4 a.m. Wednesday when one of the suspects pushed him to the ground, whipped out a knife and tried to stab him, police said.
The suspect fled on foot but then returned with his three accomplices.
One of them brandished a machete and slashed the victim repeatedly in the leg and hands as the others tried to steal the scooter.
They were unable to get the scooter, but they did snatch his cellphone before fleeing on mopeds, police said.
They were last seen headed southbound on Shepherd Avenue.
EMS transported the victim in stable condition to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was being treated for his slash wounds.
