NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police announced the arrest of a 28-year-old man on Tuesday for a series of Manhattan subway slashing attacks on women.
Kemal Rideout faces three first-degree assault charges for slashing the legs of three women unprovoked.
He allegedly slashed two women’s legs at the 86th Street and Lexington Avenue station in Harlem on Sunday.
He then took a 4 train to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station in Lower Manhattan, where he attacked another victim, authorities said.
Police said security camera images of the suspect were circulated among officers, and that Rideout was arrested when cops recognized him on the street.
The attacks took place a day after police found the body of a 32-year-old man stabbed to death on a southbound 4 train at the 14th Street-Union Square subway station.
A suspect in that killing, Claude White, was arrested and charged with murder on Monday morning. He reportedly confessed to the killing after his arrest and said the two men knew each other and were arguing over drugs when the stabbing took place.
White was on parole for robbery when he was arrested, according to police.
The NYPD added about 1,000 officers into the subway system following the two attacks, and officials said they don’t plan on scaling back after these two arrests.
The additional officers are the latest surge in subway police presence that has been repeatedly boosted over the course of the administrations of former Mayor Bill de Blasio and Mayor Eric Adams.
