NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police on Friday released a photo of the man they say punched former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Chris Redd in the face outside the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village this week.
Video from TMZ shows a trail of blood on steps leading down to the legendary comedy club on MacDougal Street following the attack around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Police confirmed that a 37-year-old man was assaulted as he exited a vehicle in front of the club. An unknown person came up and punched him in the face before fleeing eastbound on Bleecker Street and then southbound on Sullivan Street toward West Houston Street, police said.
The victim, identified by sources as Redd, suffered a laceration to his face and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was treated and released for a fractured nose.

No potential motive for the unprovoked attack was immediately known, but it appears it may have been an attempted chain-snatching.
Redd left “SNL” this year after five seasons on the late-night NBC show, which debuted its 48th season this month.
The comic had a show scheduled at the Comedy Cellar on Wednesday and has another scheduled there on Thursday.
