NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A person wearing a hazmat suit robbed two delis in the Bronx and Manhattan and fatally shot a 67-year-old deli worker early Saturday morning, according to police.
The suspect shot the man working at Daona Deli and Grocery on the corner of East 81st Street and 3rd Avenue on the Upper East Side about a half-hour after midnight, officials said.
Emergency responders found the employee with a gunshot wound to his head. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
About a half-hour before that robbery, a deli in the Bronx’s Melrose neighborhood was robbed.
The thief held the worker at Yaya Deli and Grill on the corner of Melrose Avenue and East 160th Street at gunpoint.
The cashier handed over about $1,000. No one was injured during the robbery.
Law enforcement believes the same suspect is responsible for both robberies.
Police have not yet made any arrests, and an investigation is ongoing.
