NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 15-year-old boy was pummeled and beaten with a mop stick as a group robbed him of his sneakers at a Queens subway station this week, police said Thursday.

The teen was waiting on a northbound R train platform at the Steinway Street station in Astoria on Sunday afternoon when he was attacked by five young males just before 4:30 p.m.

The group punched the victim and struck him with a mop stick before stealing the sneakers off his feet, police said. They fled the station with the shoes.

MTA surveillance images released Thursday by police show the five suspects wanted for the robbery.

The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.
