Thief punches, robs man who wouldn't hand over phone on LES

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A stranger punched and robbed a 23-year-old man in the face on the Lower East Side earlier this month after the victim wouldn't hand over his cellphone, police said Thursday as they released photos of the suspect.

The robbery took place around 4 p.m. on June 19, when the unidentified man approached the victim and asked to use his cellphone near Stanton Street and Ludlow Street.

The victim refused to hand over his cellphone, so the man punched him in the face and stole it, police said.

The thief ran off with the phone and is still being sought.

The victim refused medical attention.
