Tourist shot in back during attempted robbery on Upper West Side

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A thief shot a tourist visiting from Denmark early Sunday after he refused to give up his property on a Manhattan street, authorities said.

The 31-year-old victim was on West 103rd Street And West End Avenue on the Upper West Side around 3:30 a.m. when the mugger approached him, police said.

The suspect took out a gun and demanded the victim give him his cell phone. When the victim refused, the robber shot him in the back, according to officials.

Emergency workers transported the victim to St. Luke’s Hospital in stable condition. According to the New York Post, the victim was on his way home from a party when the attack happened.

No arrests have been made yet and the investigation remains ongoing.
