NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An Uber driver was stabbed by a passenger on FDR Drive in Lower Manhattan during an attempted robbery Tuesday, according to police.
The stabbing took place on FDR Drive near the Manhattan Bridge around 2:28 p.m., officials said.
Emergency responders rushed the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in critical condition, according to authorities.
ABC7 reported the driver was working for Uber when he was attacked by a passenger, and that police took a suspect into custody.
“We don’t have the details of why this happened yet, but we are working with the NYPD to understand the details. Drivers are assaulted and robbed everyday, but stabbing a driver goes way beyond what we expected," said New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers spokesperson Fernando Mateo. "Tonight we will gather in front of Bellevue Hospital to offer this Driver support and let his family know that we are standing together."
An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
