
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police charged a 22-year-old man in a hit-and-run crash that occurred in August in Queens, authorities said Friday.
Alberto Santana of White Plains was charged with vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident with an injury, reckless driving operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failure to obey traffic device, and a red light traffic device violation.
Just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck in the vicinity of Roosevelt Avenue and 76th Street in Jackson Heights.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 45-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive, lying in the roadway with severe body trauma.
EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospital / Elmhurst in critical condition.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined the male victim was attempting to cross Roosevelt Avenue when he was struck by a dark colored Honda sedan, traveling eastbound on Roosevelt Avenue, the driver of the sedan did not remain on scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
