NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred at a Brooklyn intersection on Saturday evening, authorities said.

Just before 7 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Ditmas Avenue and East 21st Street in Flatbush, officials said.

Upon arrival, officers observed 50-year-old Aracely Courtenay with severe head trauma.

Courtenay was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where she was pronounced dead.

The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2015 Toyota Highlander being driven by a 58-year-old man was traveling northbound on East 21st Street and making a right turn onto Ditmas Avenue when the vehicle struck Courtenay.

Courtenay had been attempting to cross East 21st Street westbound when she stepped into a depression in the roadway and fell to the ground, officials said.

The driver remained on scene.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
