Charlene Novoa was arrested around 2 a.m. on Saturday after police found Silma Garcia’s body under the bed in Garcia’s Melrose apartment on Friday night.
The victim’s apartment on Park Avenue near 161st Street was reportedly dirty and littered with trash.
When police went to question Novoa they found her covered in scratch marks which she originally claimed to have inflicted on herself, according to the Post’s source.
Novoa reportedly later told police she hit her mother with something heavy, and they arrested her.
When they questioned Novoa’s brother who lives in his mother’s apartment, he told them she believed their mother was possessed by demons, the source said.
Police originally reported the incident as a stabbing.
