NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the death of a woman following a crash in Brooklyn last week.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 60-year-old man in a 2020 Cadillac Escalade was traveling westbound on Old Fulton Street near the intersection of Water Street when he disobeyed the steady red traffic signal and accelerated continuing westbound at a high rate of speed striking multiple raised pedestrian safety bollards at the intersection of Furman Street.

EMS responded and removed the driver and 76-year-old Soraya Hassan, who was a rear seat passenger with head trauma to NY Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Hassan succumbed to her injuries just after 10 p.m., cops said.

An investigation is ongoing.
